Kettering is a large city located in southeastern Ohio. It is a suburb of Dayton and is positioned in Montgomery and Greene counties. According to the United States Census, there were about 55,000 people living in Kettering in 2016. It is the largest suburb in the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Before Kettering was established as a city, the area of its location was primarily used as farmland from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s. As more individuals began to arrive in the area, the Van Buren Township was established in 1841. In 1952, the Village of Kettering was incorporated into the township. The population of the village had grown enough to claim city status in 1955 and as a result, Kettering was incorporated as a city.
There are many things to see and do in the City of Kettering. It is home to 20 parks and a total 284 acres of recreational land. The Fraze Pavilion, a major outdoor entertainment venue, is located in Kettering and also the Skate Plaza, a 40,000 square foot skateboard park. Professional skateboarder and Kettering native Rob Dyrdek collaborated with the City of Kettering to develop the park. Also located in Kettering is the Rosewood Arts Center. The Center hosts about 100,000 guests per year and offers art classes and exhibitions and is the host of the Art on the Commons Festival. There are many shopping and dining opportunities located in the city as well. In Kettering, there is something for every individual and type of interest.
Kettering is located in a climate that experiences very cool winters and mild summers. Daytime temperatures throughout the summer season vary from the low to mid-30s on average. Throughout the summer season, daytime temperatures hover in the low and mid-80s but can climb to the 90s.
