Natural Gas / Propane Furnaces: Gas furnaces have more options than oil due in part
to the cleaner burning fuel. The basic gas furnace is 80% efficient, and is vented through your existing chimney or flue.
Higher efficiency gas furnaces can be as high as 96% efficient, depending on model and size, and vent with PVC pipe.
Below are several options that are available when choosing a gas furnace. Electric/Heat Pumps: An electric heating system consists of two parts; an air handler or fan coil and a heat pump outdoor unit. The blower
motor in a standard air handler draws 800 to 1000 watts of electricity, while a variable speed ECM motor only draws 65 to 85 watts. That translates into yearly savings of $200 to $300. The variable speed blower also
increases the efficiency of your heat pump while providing better humidity control in both heating and cooling. Heat
pumps range in size from 1 ½ tons to 5 tons and in efficiency from 13 SEER to 18 SEER.

Air Conditioners:
An air conditioner consists of the outdoor unit (the
condenser) and the indoor coil (the evaporator). In order to have the most efficient, longest-lasting cooling system,
these two components should be matched as a “system”. Today’s higher efficiency units require larger
coils, so installation expertise is a must. As of January 1, 2010, R-22 refrgerant can no longer be used in new equipment,
so all of Amana's heat pumps and air conditioners use environmentally-friendly chlorine-free R-410a refrigerant.
Air conditioners & heat pumps range in size from 1 ½ tons to 5 tons and in efficiency from 13 SEER to 18 SEER.
